SAMBARAM(Medicated Buttermilk)

Sambaram (Morum Vellam, Moru) is Kerala-style spicy buttermilk made with yogurt. It is a great replacement or tea and coffee. It helps digestion. You can also serve it with everyday summer meals to beat the scorching heat outside.

Ingredients:

  • 500 gms Yogurt (Curd, Dahi)
  • Green chilies – Adjust according to your taste.
  • 10-15 Curry Leaves
  • 1-2 Lime leaves (not mandatory)
  • 1 inch Ginger
  • 4-5 Chopped shallots
  • 1 teaspoon green chilles

Instructions

  • Whisk plain yogurt using a wire whisk until it is smooth and creamy
  • Add 3 cups of water and mix well.
  • Now add the chopped green chilies,curry leaves,lime leaves,ginger and shallots.
  • You can slightly crush these ingredients in a mortar and pestle before adding to the yogurt mixture to release their flavors even more.
  • Pour into serving glasses.
